More than a year after a deadly shooting on Lena Crescent in Cambridge, there are still updates happening. One man had his murder charges dropped in court while another was recently taken into custody by the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS).
The shooting happened on Nov. 27, 2024, when police responded to calls about gunfire at a home in that neighborhood.
According to reports, three people were inside the house when two men showed up at the door and an argument broke out. That quickly escalated to guns being drawn and shots fired, hitting two individuals – one of whom died.
Police said they tried lifesaving efforts on the 40-year-old man from Cambridge but unfortunately he died right there at the scene.
The other victim, a 31-year-old also from Cambridge, was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.
This led WRPS’ Major Crime, General Investigations, and Forensic Identification Units into a long investigation. Then in October 2025, they arrested a 37-year-old Cambridge man who faced second-degree murder and attempted murder charges.
As reported by the Waterloo Region Record, this man appeared in court weeks later where those charges were dropped. Prosecutors said they couldn’t firmly prove he wasn’t acting in self-defense.

He agreed to sign what’s called a 10-year peace bond which prevents him from contacting the victims’ families or owning any weapons during that time period.
Initially when police arrested him, they believed no more arrests would be needed for this case – but now while his charges got withdrawn, another man from North Dumfries has been arrested and charged with different offences related to this incident.
The 32-year-old from North Dumfries faces charges including:
- Being unlawfully in a dwelling
- Assault with a weapon
- Disguise with intent
- Possession of a controlled substance
The regional police say this man will appear in court later on.
They’re still looking for anyone who might have information about this over-a-year-old shooting and ask people to contact WRPS at 519-570-9777 or leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
