Walter Duczeminski - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

May 15, 1933 – December 21, 2025

Walter Duczeminski, a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and great-Grandfather, passed away quietly on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born in Pipestone, Manitoba to John and Josephene Duczeminski. When he was young, his family moved to Red Lake, Ontario where he spent his childhood fishing and playing hockey. His talent for hockey led him to Red Rock, Ontario where he met Joan Mc Kenzie; they got married in 1959. Walter loved photography and had a lifelong interest in hockey-whether watching games on TV as an adult or playing it when he was younger and then coaching his son and keeping up with his grandchildren’s games.

Another thing Walter cared about deeply was the family camp that he and Joan bought in 1969 at Stewart Lake. The camp became like a second home and a place for family reunions and many special events over the years. Mostly though, Stewart Lake served as a peaceful spot where Walter and Joan could gather their kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids to enjoy “life at the lake.”

Walter was preceded in death by his parents John and Josephene Duczeminski; his sister Jean Duczeminski; along with other close family members and friends. He will be missed by his wife Joan; son David (Susan); daughters Alison (Martina Stotter) and Cheryl (Jim Hendricken); grandchildren Erica (Paul Tyne), Jenna, Sarah (Eric Altree), Benjamin (Olivia Zeleny), Samuel; great-grandchildren Ethan, Findley, Josie; plus brother Joe (Judy) Duczeminski; brother-in-law Gordon Mc Kenzie with their families; as well as other extended relatives.

Thanks go out to all those who were part of dad’s life throughout the years-especially the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation who cared for him during his last weeks. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be planned later on. You can leave online condolences at www. sargentandson. com.
