Scott Alan Goodwin - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

“Forever our dad, forever our hero.”

We are heartbroken to share that Scott Alan Goodwin passed away peacefully on March 6th, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 19th, 1958, in Brantford, Ontario.

Scott leaves behind his loving wife Debbie and their children Eliza and Nigel (Yasmine Hogan). Also mourning him are his mother Marilyn Mac Kinnon; brothers Mark (Claudia) Goodwin and Lori Goodwin; sister-in-law Vivian (Bryan) Heppler; brothers-in-law Raymond Irvine and Richard (Malissa) Irvine; Betty; Sanchez; Bev Maronese; cousin-in-law Mary Williamson; plus many nieces and nephews who adored their uncle Scott. He was predeceased by his dad Raymond Goodwin, stepfather Ed Mac Kinnon, and brother Gordon Goodwin. Throughout his fight with cancer he had a strong circle of supporters – the family especially thanks Cathy and George Cava, lifelong friend Scott Norman, Fatima Tavares, Marina and Don Mac Leod along with all the friends he made along the way. Family meant everything to Scott. His loyalty ran deep – if you held a spot in his heart, it was yours forever.

After finishing at Lakehead University, Scott started working in corrections and retired as a youth probation officer in 2017.

He loved sports – playing hockey, lacrosse or baseball when he could. Coaching too. And cheering loud for the Red Wings, Raptors or Detroit Tigers with Oliver, his dog buddy always nearby. You’d see him out on walks every day greeting everyone with waves and friendly honks. Sitting around a fire sharing stories or music made him happiest. Fishing was one of his earliest loves-whether small streams or big lakes-he made plenty of great memories for himself and anyone lucky enough to join him.

Scott had a strong presence about him that people won’t forget anytime soon.

Cremation has been done already and there will be a celebration of life later on. Instead of flowers please consider donating to Pro Kids or Paws for Love.

“Goodbyes hurt the most when the story was not finished.”
