We’re saddened to share that Ruth Muir passed away quietly on April 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and her husband George, with whom she shared nearly 75 years of marriage.
Ruth had a gentle heart and a smile that could brighten anyone’s day. She was the strong center of her family, always bringing everyone close with her warmth and steady love. She had this way of making people feel truly noticed and cared for. Anyone who knew her found comfort in her calm presence.
Born in 1934 and raised in Conmee, Ruth later settled in Thunder Bay. She worked in retail jewellery sales where she naturally connected with customers thanks to her eye for detail and kind nature. Later on, she teamed up with George at Action Realty as a realtor.
Ruth enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved spending time at camp, collecting figurines, caring for animals-especially birds-and appreciating nature’s beauty around her.
One of Ruth’s favorite traditions was their yearly winter trips to Barbados. She also held lifelong membership in Beta Sigma Phi.
Family meant everything to Ruth. She built strong relationships and left behind a foundation of love that will carry on through those who knew her. Her kindness, quiet strength, and gentle nature will be remembered by many.
Ruth is survived by her husband George; daughter Kim (John Lambert); grandson Shane (Natalie) along with great-grandsons Emmitt and Kyan; granddaughter Shannon; daughter-in-law Thuy Le Muir; and close family friend Lynda Chicorli.
She was preceded in death by sons Lorne and Wayne, granddaughter Jennifer, and brother Melvin Hogan.
A big thank you goes out to the nursing staff at TBRHSC along with all the doctors, PSWs, and paramedics for their wonderful care. Also thanks to the team at Walford for their kindness and support during this time.
If you wish to honor Ruth’s memory, please consider making a donation to the Thunder Bay Cancer Centre instead of sending flowers.
