She passed away quietly, surrounded by her loving family on March 25, 2026, at the age of 69. She was the devoted wife and partner for 49 years to Ranjit Singh Kooner. A proud mom to Justin, Andrew, Gavin, and Yasmin. She also adored her grandchildren Jaya, Kain, and Maya. And a caring mother-in-law to Sunita, Moni, Elisa, and Tejak.
The daughter of the late Jeet Singh and Naranjan Kaur, she was also daughter-in-law to Gyan Kooner and the late Balbir Kooner. She is survived by siblings Linda and Paul; John and Rashpal; Judy and Palvinder; Liz and Evan; as well as the memories of her siblings who passed before her – Balbir and Phinderjit. She was sister-in-law to Baljeet and Virender; Ajit and Navreet. Many nieces, nephews, and relatives from across the globe will remember her fondly.
Joan worked for 43 years at ABC Day Nursery on Hanna Street where she retired as a Supervisor. She cared deeply for the kids she looked after over those years. Her grandkids brought her endless happiness – that’s what she loved most of all. On weekends you’d find her spinning records like “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver or browsing through favorite shops. She also enjoyed cooking delicious Indian meals for everyone.
As someone committed to Sikh values, Joan spent a lot of time giving back through Seva-always putting others first before herself. She was kind-hearted but strong-willed too-a real force in keeping the family close-knit. To many people around her she wasn’t just family or friend but simply Momma Joan: someone tough yet warm whose care made a difference in their lives.
Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – Banwell Chapel located at 11677 Tecumseh Rd E (phone: 519-253-7235), on Thursday April 2nd from 5 until 8 p. m. On Friday April 3rd from 10 a. m.-12 noon there will be visitation followed by Path and Ardas services. The funeral procession will then head to Windsor Crematorium at 1100 Division Rd., Windsor with Path, Antim Ardas & Langar afterward at Gurdwara Khalsa Prakash located at 7955 County Rd 42.
