Obituary for Winston Vinh – Kingston News

We’re saddened to share that Winston Vinh, age 38, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 21st, 2026 at Kingston Health Sciences Centre.

Winston was the youngest of four siblings and the second son of Khean Vinh and San Phan Heng. He was born in Kingston, Ontario on January 5th, 1988. Winston’s brothers and sisters include Nariy Moscrop (Howard) and Bolpar Vinh-Doyle (Will). Sadly, his older brother died young before their parents moved to Canada. Besides his parents and sisters, Winston leaves behind many family members including nephews Max and Mikey, nieces Sally and Jessica, plus relatives overseas.

He dedicated a lot of energy to Kingston’s art and music scenes. From late night gigs at The Toucan to several shows at Thousand Islands Playhouse, music was what drove him. He supported tons of bands and truly loved playing live whenever he could. Whether jamming with Funkyfrenz on Monday nights at The Toucan or rocking Saturdays with The Big Phat Horn Band at The RCHA Club – not to mention his latest group The Wild Rose Orchestra – Winston didn’t limit himself stylistically. He studied music at Humber College too, bringing back what he learned to share with students and fellow musicians alike. His giving nature meant he shared his talent widely including recording for various charities.

You’re welcome to visit on Wednesday, March 25th from 2-5pm at James Reid Funeral Home located at 1900 John Counter Blvd. A Celebration of Life will happen Thursday evening starting around 5pm at The Toucan. Family has asked for a private burial which will take place later.

If you’d like to support something meaningful to Winston’s heart instead of sending flowers or gifts, please consider donating to Joe’s Music Mill via joesmill. org. This local spot meant a lot to him.

As ABBA sings in Thanks For the Music: “Thank you for the music, the songs I’m singing. Thanks for all the joy they’re bringing…I ask in all honesty, what would life be without a song.”
