Moira Bodak - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

Our dear mom, Moira Bodak, left us on January 30, 2026, at the age of 93 after living a full life.

Moira Doreen Work was born in Fort William as the third daughter to Peter and Margaret Work.

She met our dad, Bill Bodak, back in high school. They tied the knot on June 1st, 1955.

We were lucky to grow up in a home filled with love between our parents. They cared deeply for each other and for all of us. Mom really loved being a mother. She was always fun and ready for an adventure. Our house was busy with kids, laughter, and plenty of mischief. Mom and dad were our biggest cheerleaders and supporters.

Moira’s favorite spot was her camp at One Island Lake. Life at camp started simple – no electricity or running water – just a bunch of kids and a husband who liked to golf. Mom turned every moment there into an adventure. One of her last wishes was simply to take a drive out to camp again. We’ll keep celebrating mom as the next generation of Bodaks grows up there. She was an amazing Nana who kept up with all her grandkids’ activities and interests-always ready to be their number one driver around town. St. Paul’s United Church meant a lot to our parents; that’s where mom formed lifelong friendships as a young wife and stayed involved until she couldn’t anymore because of her health.

Moira will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Anne Smith (Craig), Bob (Cindy), Marla Poulin (Dale), Brenda Campbell (Don). Grandchildren Allison, Paul, Heather, Kate, Andrew, Christy Campbell, Shayla, Will, Jill Bodak; Alyssa Poulin; Bryce Bodak plus 12 great-grandkids.

Losing dad changed everything for mom. She showed us how to be grateful for what we had together and keep moving forward by example. She was truly strong-willed. Our brother Bill’s terrible stroke hit hard, and she missed him every day until the end.

Mom went before us – along with her parents, sisters Lorraine Hillier, and Phyllis Dubinsky, and her son Bill whom she loved so much.

We’re forever thankful for Caroline, Bill’s Bayshore helper, and everyone at Chartwell Arundel. For the last years, mom got kind, dignified care from the wonderful staff on Pioneer Ridge’s fourth floor. They became friends who helped make sure she passed peacefully.

Mom loved sports and cheered on all family events. Instead of flowers, you might want to donate to PRO Kids or another charity you care about.
