We’re deeply saddened to share that Michael “Mickey” Ball passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 17th, at the age of 70.
Mickey was married to Pam for 43 years. He was a proud and loving dad to Lauren and Devon and a grandpa to Charlotte, Evelyn, Juliet, and Elliott.
Mickey spent almost 50 years working in the fuel industry, where he made friends all across Ontario. Back in his college days, he played on the Men’s Hockey Team at the University of Pennsylvania after being recruited from his hometown of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Hockey stayed close to his heart throughout his life – whether playing with teams like the Oshawa Generals or coaching his daughter Devon for many seasons. He never missed watching his daughters’ games and competitions, always finding the best spot-whether behind the net, by the balance beam, or along the sidelines.
Mickey approached life with lots of energy and humor and had a real love for people. He enjoyed chatting (even if it meant telling the same stories again), adored his family, and had a warmth you could feel in that unmistakable smile. If you were having a rough day, talking with Mickey would remind you what truly matters.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 14th at 5:30 pm at Wave Twin Rinks (1179 Northside Rd, Burlington, ON).
The family kindly asks that instead of flowers, anyone wishing to honor Mickey’s memory consider donating to the Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund. This supports young players by breaking down financial barriers so more kids can enjoy hockey-the sport Mickey loved dearly (please add “Mickey” in your donation comment).
