Lawrence Mochizuki - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

We’re saddened to share that Lawrence Mochizuki passed away early on December 15, 2025, surrounded by his daughters.

Lawrence was born on October 5, 1939, in Ucluelet, BC to Kiutaro and Tome. His childhood included the tough experience of living in the Tashme internment camp in BC. Later on, he grew up in Thunder Bay and graduated from Lakehead University in 1968 where he received the Engineering Technology Award. In August 1969, he married his wife Janet and they moved to Sudbury so he could start his long career as a supervisor at INCO. Together they built their family life until Janet’s death in 2013.

They raised their daughters Robin and Kyra on Drummond Ave., where close friendships with neighbors stayed important to Lawrence throughout his life. His daughters really appreciate all the support those friends gave him and continue to offer them now.

Lawrence always had some kind of project going-whether it was fixing things around the house or working outside in the garden or yard. During the ’80s he spent many hours coaching ringette at local arenas for his girls and made great friends through that too. He liked staying active with curling and bowling but especially enjoyed golfing and fishing. As an avid fisherman, he’d count down the winter days until pickerel season came back so he could fill up his freezer again.

He was predeceased by his wife Janet; brothers Ed (Doreen) and Harry (Wendy); plus siblings Noboru and Hisae back in Japan. He leaves behind daughters Robin and Kyra along with nieces Corrine and Kim.

The family wants to thank Dr. Singh along with all the PSWs at HSN for their kind care that helped Lawrence find comfort during his last days.

A gathering to celebrate Lawrence’s life will take place Saturday, May 3rd at 1:00 p. m., at Timberwolf Golf Club-a spot where he loved spending time doing what he enjoyed most. Friends and family are invited to come together, share memories or say a few words about him.
