William David Alcorn - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

After a brave fight with cancer, Irene Wakula-Oltsher from Thunder Bay quietly passed away early on February 12, 2026. She was born on October 14, 1955, in Fort William.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents Doris and Stanley Wakula, along with her Aunt and Uncle Soltinuk. They all moved to Fort William together after the war. Becoming part of the Ukrainian community was like gaining family for them. Irene took great pride in her Ukrainian roots, and her faith gave her strength and meaning throughout life. She’ll be fondly remembered by cousins Pat & Lil, Lesia & family, and friends Kim and Godson James, Carol & Ian, Marusia & Sonya, Frank and Bill. Thanks so much for all the care you showed Irene. Lesia & Marusia, your emails and photos meant a lot.

We want to send a heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses, PSWs, and staff at TBRHSC, St Joseph’s Hospital, Southbridge Lakehead, and Hogarth Riverview.

Cremation has been completed. A burial service will happen later at Mountain View Cemetery.

If you wish to honor Irene’s memory with a donation please consider giving to the Northern Cancer Fund at healthsciencesfoundation. ca

Give her eternal rest, O Lord
and may your light shine on her forever.
