It’s with a heavy heart that we share Hector Frank Couch (85) peacefully passed on December 22, 2025, with his wife Sylvia holding his hand. Born August 16, 1940, he called South Gillies, Ontario home. He attended Selkirk High School in Fort William during his younger years.
Hector leaves behind his wife Sylvia; daughter Jackie (Glenn); son Randy (Nancy); brother Hubert; sisters Maureen, Barbra, Joan and Karen; plus grandchildren Jason, Cory, Marissa, Miranda, Madison and Becky.
He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Maude Couch. Hector worked as a Lineman for Thunder Bay Telephone and held the record as the longest-serving city employee for many years even after retiring. He also hauled loads of pulp from the bush for Buchanan, Mc Kevitt and Fortier.
Hector always had a thing for Chili Peppers and Vicks – he never ran out of them. Keeping busy washing vehicles whether at home or down at the lake was just how he liked to spend time.
Summers were special to Hector when spent at Oliver Lake. He enjoyed traveling to visit family and absolutely adored his grandkids Jason, Cory, Marissa, Miranda and Madison.
Cremation has been done already. They’ll be holding a Celebration of Life sometime this summer – date’s still up in the air.
