December 4, 1958 – February 17, 2026
We’re sad to share that Eric Molenda passed away at age 67 after a short but brave fight with cancer. He died on February 17, 2026, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Eric lived most of his life in Westfort and went to Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute. Right after high school, he started working as a cleaner at the Red Oak Inn. In 1978, he followed his dad’s footsteps and joined Canadian Pacific Railroad, where he worked until retiring on January 1, 2014.
He was the oldest child of Frank and Vera Molenda and kept a simple lifestyle like his parents did. Eric loved food – especially his mom’s German and Polish dishes. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and fishing. Back in the day, he hunted partridge too.
Eric could be pretty stubborn sometimes but was also kind-hearted, generous, and had a good sense of humor. He’ll be missed by those who knew him. Rest easy, Eric.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Johann and Pauline Grabowski; parents Frank and Vera Molenda; uncle Nicolas Grabowski; and aunts Sophie Lupp (Hans) and Elizabeth Grabowski.
Left behind are his siblings Ron, Rick, and Linda; nephew Tyler; plus cousins Liz Johnston (Ian), Leo Lupp (Caroline), and Stephanie Lupp-Scharer (Matthew).
Cremation has already taken place. Eric will be buried alongside his parents at Mountain View Cemetery. A private memorial will happen sometime later.
The arrangements are with Simpler Times Cremation Centre at 575 Central Avenue in Thunder Bay.
