Daisy Ishabid - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

Remembering Daisy Ishabid

Born: September 28, 1937

Passed Away: May 23, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Daisy Ishabid’s passing. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, auntie, and a close friend to many. Daisy was truly the center of her family and community. Her kindness and strength left an impression on everyone who had the chance to know her.

Daisy is survived by her children and their families: Maxine Bouchard, Debbie Bouchard, Carol and John Gagnon, Barbara Bouchard, Sharon Bouchard, Karen Bouchard and Allen K., Stella Bouchard and Jeffrey Gagnon; along with her adopted son Jessy Dew and Heather Howard. She was so proud of her large family-37 grandchildren, 47 great-great-grandchildren, plus 4 great-great-great-grandchildren-all held dear in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mike and Barbara Finlayson; siblings Oliver, William, Joe, and Duncan Finlayson; husband Abraham Ishabid; children Barry Bouchard and Arlene Legarde; as well as in-laws Symphrose Mendowagan, Abraham Mazinakouskang, Chris Gagnon, and Eddie Legarde.

Daisy spent most of her life caring for others. From early on she put family first. Deep in faith herself, she often helped priests and nuns around her community with humility and generosity. One thing she took pride in was being one of the founders of Saint Kateri Days-a celebration that started at the Thunderbird Friendship Centre and still happens every year in Thunder Bay.

When she was younger Daisy worked with her mother who was a midwife – helping bring new babies into the world right where they lived. Later on she worked as a waitress before becoming an Educational and Remedial Teacher at Aroland Day School where she cared deeply for all the kids she supported.

While living in Geraldton Ontario later on in life Daisy joined senior programs at Thunderbird Friendship Centre. There she made lots of strong friendships with staff members plus other seniors who became like family over time. She always had this special way about her-making people feel seen welcomed loved no matter where she went.

Daisy’s greatest joy came from spending time with family – especially celebrating birthdays or gatherings full of laughter stories love shared together. She enjoyed playing cards – Boss Man being a favorite game – always good for laughs warm company too! Gospel music touched her soul too; many nights she’d softly sing lullabies to help soothe little grandbabies off to sleep filled with gentle love.

You couldn’t miss that smile – bright warm contagious-it lifted spirits gave comfort around her presence alone seemed to make things better somehow even during those last years at Hogarth Riverview Manor Daisy kept bringing happiness through simple joys like card games visits from daughters grandchildren sharing smiles along halls making days brighter both residents staff alike.

Daisy’s faith care kindness courage will live on through everyone lucky enough to have known her personally or felt it indirectly by example set long ago though sad hearts remain we hold tight onto memories lessons learned endless love given freely throughout lifetime gone but never really gone just carried forward daily lives forever missed remembered loved.

A wake will take place at Family Home located at 320 Tamarak Place Thunder Bay ON starting from 10:00am Tuesday May 26 2026 until 10:00am Thursday May 28 2026.

The Funeral Mass honoring Mrs. Daisy Ishabid will be held Friday May 29th at St Patrick’s Cathedral beginning promptly at 11:00am celebrated by Rev Msgr P. M Stilla J. V.

Arrangements are handled by WESTFORT CHAPEL located at 420 West Gore Street near James Street.
