Frankly, this wonderful guy quietly left us on Sunday, April 19, 2026, just shy of his 100th birthday.
Born in Arnprior, Ontario on June 6, 1926, Frank later settled in Sault Ste. Marie in 1979. He loved sharing stories-whether about growing up in the Ottawa Valley as a kid, his adventures with the Canadian army, working on construction sites across Canada, or his years as a safety inspector for the Ministry of Labour. He showed us all how much joy there is in simple things-a good A& W breakfast, a solid round of golf, catching up with friends and winning at cards.
Now reunited with his wife Mildred and great-grandson Charlie along with many other family members and friends who went before him. He was the proud dad of Alan Clouthier (Angela), Geary Clouthier (Patti) and Jo-Anne O’Shea (Mike). Grandpa Frank had Derek Clouthier, Ghislaine Clouthier, Alison Gareau, Maggie Gareau (Jamie Henderson), Lauren Gareau (Nolan Punch), Carrie Vaz (Rick) and Dan O’Shea (Holly). But what really mattered to him was being Big Papa to Maddie (mom Kirsty), Brady, Owen, Connor, Myles, Juno and Rory. His thoughtful siblings Bob (late Carol), Corrine (late Bob Thompson), Larry (Cindy) and Janice (Brian Bonnar) along with many nieces, nephews and cousins will miss him too. Frank especially valued friendships with Larry Marshall (deceased), Scott and Christine Morrow, Ted Gareau (late Nadine) and Stancel Lepinsky (late Andy). Also keeping Angel the furbaby company won’t be quite the same without him.
The family wants to give special thanks to Drs. Grottoli and Golesic for their care over recent years; also Drs. Booth and Cady plus Nikki, Amy and everyone at Sault Area Hospital who looked after Frank during his final days-and especially Dr. Kargbo for her kindness to our whole family.
We’ll have a celebration of life sometime early June-anyone who knew Frank well is welcome to join us then. More info will come out later.
