We are saddened to share that Susan “Sue” Lenore Jamieson from Orillia passed away quietly on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the age of 79, at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
Sue was the mother of the late Thomas Neely from Orillia; Colin Neely (Pamela) who lives in Oro-Medonte; and Jennifer Neely from Victoria, BC. She was a proud grandmother to Gabriel, Samuel, Ezekiel, Jack, and Sebastian. Sue was the daughter of the late Floyd and Dorothy Winch of Meaford.
She is fondly remembered by her sisters: Cathy Oprisan (Marian, predeceased) in Elliot Lake; Ann Mc Intyre (Robert, predeceased) in Petawawa; and Debbie Waldron (Ken) in Victoria, BC. Her brothers Jim Winch (Bonnie) from Orillia and Michael Winch from Owen Sound passed away before her. Sue’s nieces and nephews will miss her dearly.
Sue was born on September 24, 1946, in Petrolia, Ontario and spent much of her early life around Wiarton and Meaford. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Georgian College in Orillia in 1976. Sue started nursing at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital before moving on to Huronia Regional Centre and later worked as a VON nurse around Grey County. Eventually she returned to Huronia Regional Centre where she wrapped up her nursing career before retiring.
Even after retirement Sue stayed busy helping people. She volunteered with the United Church of Canada for many years-at Oxford Street church where she served as Chair of the church council board since joining in 1983-as well as at Regent Park and Westmount United Churches. Sue also gave her time to Scouts Canada over many years and took part on several boards and committees.
Known simply as “Grandma Sue” around local arenas in Orillia, she never missed a chance to cheer on her grandkids during hockey or lacrosse games.
The family wants to sincerely thank everyone who cared for Sue including doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, PSWs plus Kim Newman and staff at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. A special shout-out goes to Dr. Julie Gallagher along with Bayshore Nurses (especially Amanda), plus Sheona and all her helpers from Happy at Home who made sure Sue’s last months at home were as comfortable as possible through their kindness and dedication.
Sue’s family will hold a Celebration of Life on Thursday May 21st, 2026 from 1 p. m. until 3 p. m., held at Simcoe Funeral Home located at 38 James Street E Orillia. If you’d like to make donations instead of flowers they can be given to Canadian Cancer Society or Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital-or any charity you choose-through Simcoe Funeral Home (705) 327-0221 located at the same address above.
