January 11, 1948 – January 27, 2026
Caroline May Goulding quietly passed away on January 27, 2026, at the age of 78. She’ll be remembered for her strong family ties, kind heart, and steady presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents Thora Gorrell (Melby) and Wylie Gorrell; her brothers Delford and Ken Gorrell; and sisters Melody Ferguson and Trudy Kostynik. Also gone before her was her step-son Patrick Douglas Kerry Goulding.
Caroline leaves behind her loving husband Ross Goulding and a close-knit family who meant everything to her. She took great pride in being a mother and grandmother, deeply caring for each of them:
· Melody Gordon (Andre’) and family
· Stacie and Christopher
· Tyler with son Owen
· Donna Townes (Scott) and children
· Kyle and Talon
· Karrie Bank (Chris) and children
· Ridge and Brendon
· David Dolph (Jennifer) and children
· Andrew, Dyna, and Austin
· In total she had 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She’s also survived by brothers Wayne Gorrell (Noella), William Gorrell (Nina), Dale Gorrell (Jolene); sister Penny Fitzpatrick; sister-in-law Jan; brother-in-law Bill Ferguson; step-son Dean (Diane) Ross Goulding; plus lots of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
Family was Caroline’s greatest happiness. She loved when everyone gathered together sharing meals, laughter, stories. Cooking especially baking bread was something she enjoyed a lot. She also took real pride in caring for her garden-it gave her peace.
A big part of Caroline’s life was working at Manitouwadge High School as the Attendance Counsellor. This wasn’t just a job to her-it meant so much more. She truly cared about the students’ welfare, often going out of her way to help them through tough times or crises. Her dedication made a difference to many young people.
Plans will be made later to celebrate Caroline’s life with a service among family and friends.
The family wants to thank all the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre-especially the ICU team-for their kindness, professionalism during such a hard time. Special shout-out goes to Nurses Julie and Cal on 2B who gave gentle care when we first arrived. Their warmth won’t be forgotten.
We’re very thankful for all the prayers, support, compassion shown during this period.
