Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) is investigating after a teen was seriously injured during what’s reported as a robbery and kidnapping in Cambridge.
The incident took place on Sept. 5 around 9:48 p. m. near Saginaw Parkway and Townline Road, police said.
When officers arrived after being called about a robbery, they found the youth badly hurt but not in critical condition. The teen was rushed to the hospital for care.
As the investigation progressed, police say it became clear that the victim had been kidnapped and forced into a dark van by five men who are still unknown.
The victim was reportedly beaten up, threatened with a gun, and made to send money to a cryptocurrency wallet. After that, the suspects let them go and drove off, last seen heading down Townline Road.
The five suspects are described as Black men in their twenties. They were all dressed in dark clothes with masks covering their faces.
This case is still open with WRPS’ General Investigations Unit working on it and asking for help from anyone who might know something.
