Waterloo regional police arrested and charged a 38-year-old woman from Cambridge following a house fire early Saturday morning in the city.

Emergency responders got called around 2 a. m. to a house fire near Adam Street and Queen Street.

Police reported that one person was taken to a nearby hospital because of smoke inhalation.

The fire department from Cambridge put out the blaze, but the house was badly damaged, according to police.

The woman is charged with arson – disregard for human life, and she’s being held until her bail hearing.

Investigations are still ongoing with Waterloo regional police and Ontario Fire Marshal’s office involved.
