Police report that a stolen car from Boston slammed into a biotechnology building in Cambridge Monday afternoon, seriously hurting someone inside.
The Porsche was taken from Dalton Street in Boston at about 12:45 p. m., police said. Officers in Cambridge spotted the stolen car near Massachusetts Ave and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped off.
“The vehicle involved took off down Albany St. at a high rate of speed,” Cambridge police said. “Our officers did not pursue it out of safety concerns and only learned of the crash from later 9-1-1 calls.”
Shortly after, the car was seen driving the wrong way on a one-way street before crashing into the Intellia Therapeutics building on Waverly Street. “I was busy like hiding, from debris,” a witness named Katie said. “I fully turned my body.”
The crash also damaged a tree, a bike rack, and a water pipe.
A witness told WBZ that the driver seemed dazed but awake and tried to walk away from where it happened. “Well, he was going way too fast, and then apparently he ran away, said some other guys who saw him,” Katie added.
Someone inside the building suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Rescue crews were still working Monday night to get the car out of the building.
The driver was caught and taken to a nearby hospital by police. They say charges will be filed against this person but have not shared their name yet.
