Man dies after stabbing on Norfolk St.

A man lost his life following a stabbing at an apartment complex on Norfolk St. last night. Victor Rivas from South Boston, who is suspected to be the attacker, was located nearby by officers from Cambridge and MIT police and taken into custody.

The police arrived around 7:52 PM after getting a 911 call about a stabbing. Inside the building, they found the victim-who hasn’t been identified yet-with serious wounds. Firefighters and EMS rushed him to a nearby hospital where he later passed away.

On Wednesday evening, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office released a statement saying, “The preliminary investigation suggests that there was an altercation inside the apartment between the defendant and the male victim, who are believed to be known to each other. Both parties sustained injuries during the altercation.”

Rivas, age 51, faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. It’s not clear yet if those charges will be increased to homicide. He’s expected in Cambridge District Court for arraignment this Friday.

The suspect is currently held by police and authorities believe there’s no ongoing threat to public safety, but they called the case “ongoing” as investigators from their office, Cambridge Police detectives, and Massachusetts State Police continue working on it.
