Police say they arrested five men after stopping an armed robbery at the Cambridge Centre mall on Monday evening. These suspects are also linked to four other robberies in Waterloo earlier that same day.

The group includes one 22-year-old, a 19-year-old, a 17-year-old, and two teenagers who are 15 years old. All come from Toronto.

Officers were called to the mall just before 5:30 p. m. after security spotted a stolen car connected to an earlier robbery.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered that five suspects armed with handguns, sledgehammers, and duffel bags were actively robbing a jewelry store inside the mall,” police said in a release.

“In the interest of public safety, officers entered the mall and engaged the suspects. All five individuals were arrested shortly after the incident.”

During the arrests, two loaded handguns were found and seized.

All five remain in custody awaiting bail hearings on charges related to robbery involving firearms.

“These individuals are believed to be involved in four other robbery and firearm-related offences earlier in the day in Waterloo, as well as similar offences in other jurisdictions. Those investigations remain ongoing, and additional charges are anticipated,” Waterloo regional police said.
