Waterloo Regional Police have charged several suspects connected to a string of major scrap metal thefts in Cambridge, which caused over $100,000 in losses for a local company.
Back in early January 2026, officers from the South Division’s Direct Action Response Team (DART) started looking into multiple scrap metal theft incidents at a business located on Goddard Crescent.
On January 22, 2026, around 11:40 p. m., members from South Division DART, South Division Street Crimes Team, Central Division DART, the Emergency Response Team, and the Canine Unit caught five men in the act of stealing metal from the property. Police also took possession of a vehicle linked to the crime.
The suspects-aged 22, 33, 34, 40, and 55-and all from the Greater Toronto Area have been charged with six counts of theft over $5,000. They remain held by police awaiting their bail hearing.
Authorities believe this group is tied to other big scrap metal theft cases throughout Ontario.
The investigation is still active and being handled by South Division’s Direct Action Response Team.
