Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) is looking into multiple cases where fake Canadian money was handed over during online buy-and-sell deals in Cambridge.
They didn’t say how many times this happened, but in every case, people selling electronics through an online site met up with buyers who paid them with counterfeit cash. These events all took place in March.
The sellers only realize later that the bills they got are fake.
If you have any info about these scams, contact WRPS or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or visit www. waterloocrimestoppers. com.
Police advise everyone buying or selling stuff online to be careful and protect themselves. There’s a safe, well-lit spot set up for exchanges at WRPS stations on Columbia St. in Waterloo, Hespeler Rd. in Cambridge, and at their main office at 200 Maple Grove Rd., Cambridge.
