The Mansion Featured in “The Queen’s Gambit” is a Chance to Step Into the Series

Set just after the Great Depression in Lexington, Kentucky, the sets of Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit” really show off the luxury of that era. When Beth hurries to a chess game in episode one, she’s surrounded by high ceilings, fancy wallpaper, rich velvet in jewel tones, and gold-framed mirrors.

Now, one of the stunning filming spots located in Cambridge, Ontario is up for sale at $3.5 million – giving you a rare chance to walk where Beth did.

If you’ve seen the show, you might spot the Chamberlain House. Even if not, it’s clear this place is a real treasure.

The Chamberlain House sports Tudor Revival style and sits on lush grounds edged with trimmed hedges and tall trees. It makes a big first impression with its stone porte-cochère right before the front door. There’s even a balcony above it.

Inside feels like stepping back into the 1950s with floral wallpaper, polished wood accents, and walls painted in jewel colors all around. That’s no accident; although built in 1916, renovations were done carefully to keep its original charm intact.

The main floor includes a living room highlighted by an eye-catching fireplace and bow windows that open onto a covered veranda. You’ll also find a dining room, breakfast nook, and kitchen – which features an impressive masonry mantle hood as its centerpiece.

The upper floors hold seven bedrooms including the primary suite on the second level. There’s also a library upstairs. Two separate staircases lead to different parts of the house. Plus there’s a basement too.

Our Favourite Thing

Though updated by previous owners back in the 1980s – and kept spotless since – walking inside still feels like entering another era. The way it’s decorated adds to that vibe along with its neighborhood Dickson Hill which has this classic Victorian atmosphere all around.

Nearby are Victoria Park, Cambridge Cricket Club, Victoria Park Tennis Club and University of Cambridge.
