Henry (Heindrich) Spyrka
Henry Spyrka, husband to Louise, passed away quietly on January 4, 2026, in Sudbury. He was born on January 10, 1944, in Poland. Henry leaves behind his wife Louise, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years together. He will also be fondly remembered by his sisters Sally and Lydia as well as his nieces and nephews – Bryan, Mark, Lise, Jean, Rhéal, Michel and Chantal.
A proud graduate from Laurentian University, Henry did more than just study hard; he also showed leadership as captain of the university basketball team. His dedication to teaching shaped many students’ lives over the years. Colleagues and students alike valued him for his kindness and genuine care.
In retirement, Henry enjoyed traveling across Canada and the U. S. with Louise in their RV, making lots of great memories along the way. Among all their trips, the Yukon stood out as his favorite spot. For many years he kept active through running and cycling and was a skilled canoeist who paddled numerous Northern Ontario rivers each summer.
Louise and Henry’s love for adventure and nature led them to settle at Lake Kukagami where they lived for 42 years. They truly loved that place – Kukagami always had a special spot in Henry’s heart.
His warmth mixed with a good sense of humor made him someone everyone enjoyed being around – people who knew him will carry those memories close forever.
The family wants to thank the wonderful staff at Finlandia Long Term Care for taking such great care of Henry with kindness throughout his stay.
