Norma Humar - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

With heavy hearts, her family shares that Norma Humar passed away at home on April 16th, 2026. She was 92 years old.

Norma was born and raised in South Porcupine, Ontario on September 11th, 1933. At seventeen, she moved with her parents to Thunder Bay-Port Arthur (as it was called then) and stayed there ever since.

She spent much of her life knitting, sewing, fixing clothes, cooking at home, and keeping things tidy around the house-always busy with those tasks. Norma loved classical music and often went to live band dances when she was younger at the Finlandia Club on weekends, up above the old Hoito on Bay Street. As a big fan of music, she collected vinyl records because she liked the sound of older analog tunes best. She enjoyed watching classic films and newer documentaries alike and always stayed informed about the news and current events.

For many years, she worked in the accounts department at Eaton’s located on Red River and Court Street. Later on, she took a job at Lakehead University as an administrative assistant to the Dean in the education department.

She leaves behind her daughter Margaret Mac Kay (Roderick Mac Kay), grandchildren Alec Mac Kay, Elizabeth Mac Kay (Kohl Dolph), Ian Mac Kay (Leslie Hiller), and nephew Danny Humar. She was preceded in death by her mother Helmi, father Wainio, step-father Peter Pekka and grandson Peter Mac Kay.

The family appreciates the support from Northwest Funeral Alternative during this difficult time. Norma has been cremated and a private burial will be held.
