It’s with heavy hearts we share that Kyle Sturgeon from Kingfisher Lake First Nation, born March 8, 2001, passed away early on May 20, 2026 at 5:59 am central time. He was just 25 years old.
Kyle leaves behind his parents Sam and Greta Sturgeon; brothers Sheldon Sturgeon, Landon Sturgeon, Andrew Suggashie; sisters Samantha Sturgeon, Kimberly Sturgeon, Keanna Sturgeon, Hilary Suggashie. His nieces and nephews also survive him. He is remembered by his uncles Daniel (Sarah Ann) Sturgeon and Myles (Martha) Sturgeon along with aunts Mary Kanakakessic, Betty (Eno) Mckay, Clara Wapenisk, Amanda Eaglestick, Shelly Eaglestick, April Eaglestick, Cher Owen and Sandra Quilland. His grandmother Blanche Eaglestick also survives him. Many relatives from Kingfisher Lake, Weagamow, Wunnumin Lake, Pikangikum and Little Grand Rapids in Manitoba remain close in memory.
Viewing will happen in Thunder Bay at EVEREST – WESTFORT CHAPEL located at 420 West Gore Street on Sunday morning May 24th at 11:00 am.
Afterwards Kyle’s body will be taken home to Kingfisher Lake First Nation. There will be a Wake Service Sunday evening starting at 6:00 pm held at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church. The Funeral Service is set for Monday afternoon May 25th at 1:00 pm inside the same church with Bishop Lydia Mamakwa and Rev. Amos Winter officiating. Burial will follow right after at the Kingfisher Community Cemetery.
