With heavy hearts, the family shares that Darlene White passed away after a brief but tough health battle she faced with real strength.
Darlene was born in Swan River and grew up in Minitonas, Manitoba, and later the East End of Thunder Bay. She retired from working at the City of Thunder Bay Homes for the Aged where she spent 30 years caring deeply for seniors and her coworkers.
She showed all her life that true richness comes from simple things. Darlene was a natural when it came to caring for others, straightforward, and known as a “hugger.” Her kitchen table was like a safe place filled with comfort, black coffee, and wise words shared with anyone who stopped by.
Country music played a big part in her life. Following the message of her favorite Dolly Parton song, her life really was a “Coat of Many Colours”-made up of kindness, hard work, and deep love.
Darlene’s husband Bill was by her side through nearly fifty years together; you’d often find them dancing two-step in the kitchen with their loyal dog Samantha resting close by. They also worked on turning an old lakeside cabin into their dream summer spot alongside friends they treated like family. Otherwise, you might catch her out shopping with her sister Kathy.
Those who hold onto her memory include her loving husband Bill White; children Cody White, Rob (Tracy) White, Lindsay (Brad) White, and Cassidy White. Courtney also brings lots of happiness to Dar’s family home.
Darlene was daughter to the late Henry and Irene Blandford. She is survived by three sisters and their families: Kathryn Alice Crease (with Sal Mamolotti), plus sons Michael James Gerry (Jenn) and Danny Henry Gerry (Alison); Cher Diane Blandford along with daughter Shauna Marie (Mickey) Parkin (and grandson Sinclair Smith) plus son Nathan Giba; Karren Lainn (Jerry) Livingston along with their children Aaron, Crystal, Levi and grandchildren Alanah, Carter, Kam and Scarlett.
On the White side there’s also extended family from William “Bill” and Norma White – sons, daughters grandchildren great-grandchildren – plus all those related through marriage who were some of Darlene’s closest friends too.
Her chosen family includes Lorrie & Wayne Jr. Potter (remembering their late parents Sharon “Partner” & Wayne Sr., who were Darlene’s best friends), Tim & Kim Binmore with their family along many lifelong friends as well.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled later on. Instead of flowers please consider donating to the Heart and Stroke Foundation-it would mean a lot.
