New figures show which parts of Cambridge city centre saw the most crime recently. The latest info from Police UK covers December 2023.

Each crime reported is marked on a map giving a general idea of where they happened, either by street or specific place within the area.

In total, 328 crimes were recorded across the city centre last December. Still, one street stood out as being particularly risky that month.

Downing Street had the highest number with 30 crimes reported in December. Over half those (19) were shoplifting cases.

Market Hill and Post Office Terrace on St Andrew’s Street both came next, each recording 23 crimes. These included violence, sexual offences and various thefts.

Sidney Street was next with 21 crimes, followed by a nightclub close to Hobson’s Passage with 18. On the flip side, twenty locations only saw one crime during December-places like bus stations, concert halls, an exhibition centre and even part of the A1307.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said: “We are committed to tackling crime and bringing offenders to justice and we have an increasing number of police officers operating on the front line dedicated to making Cambridgeshire a safe place.”
