William B. Dackiw - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

November 3, 1934 – May 16, 2026

William Dackiw, aged 91, passed away quietly at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Born November 3, 1934 to Stefan and Mary Dackiw in Fort William, Ontario, William went through local schools before working at several local businesses. He eventually joined CNR in 1953 and worked there in car control, then as a senior machine operator, and later as a data supervisor. He retired after a long career of 37 years in August of 1990.

Bill loved being outdoors and was an experienced trapper for over five decades. He owned two cabins near Graham where he spent many years fishing and hunting. He was handy with repairs around the house and gardening too. William stood firm on his beliefs, took pride in his home and cabins, and was quite the cook – many tasty barbecues, homemade soups, and especially Chinese meals were enjoyed by family and friends over the years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Bernice (in 2020), his step-son Lorne Chabot (in 2023), as well as his parents Mary (1983) and Stefan (1983).

The funeral service for Mr. Dackiw will be held Friday, May 22, 2026 at 11:00 a. m. at EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL located at 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Visitation starts one hour before the service. Burial will take place afterward at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Please note that parking is limited in our upper lot on Waverley St due to construction; however the lower lot on Park St remains fully accessible via Court St., with stairs leading up to the chapel.

If you wish to make a donation instead of sending flowers, please consider contributing to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in William’s name.
