Obituary of George Richard Tarcea

George Richard Tarcea  April 23, 1947 – March 24, 2026

We’re deeply saddened to let you know that George Richard Tarcea passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born in Windsor ON on April 23, 1947, and was the loving son of the late Sylvester (Sandy) and Catherine (nee Iatsko) Tarcea.

After graduating from W. D. Lowe High School, George found his niche working in men’s clothing. He spent 28 years at Brotherhoods Men’s Wear on Ottawa Street where folks sometimes called him “The Mayor of Ottawa Street.” When Brotherhoods closed, he went on to work another 12 years at Moore’s Clothing. George had this knack for spotting a customer and immediately knowing their size-even when they argued “I’m not that big,” he’d always be spot on!

In the mid-90s, George met Nancy-the love of his life-and together they created a big blended family where blood ties didn’t really matter. As a dad figure to Nancy’s sons Tom and Andrew, George led by example; his character and values set a strong path for everyone around him. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Nancy (Prince), sons Tom Nelson (Rachel), Andrew Nelson (Wendy). George was also a proud grandpa (“Moishu”) to four grandchildren: Renee (Mat), Tegan (Scott), Alexandra (Chris), and Wesley (Feleecia). Not to mention ten great-grandchildren: Charlie, Jacob, Camden, Colson, Farrah, Harlow, Noa, Abram, Edith and Lilliana. He was an uncle and brother-in-law to many nieces and nephews in the Prince family as well as cousins and lots of close friends.

George stayed very active with the Masonic order throughout his life. A lifetime member for over 57 years at Harmony Lodge #579 he knew the work inside out and mentored many fellow masons. He served as VW Master for Windsor District and was twice Past Master of Harmony Lodge. He held a 33rd degree Scottish Rite title and was Past Most Wise Sovereign of Rose Croix. On top of all that he belonged to Moramos Shrine Club where besides volunteering endlessly at children’s picnics and bingo fundraisers he played cymbals in the Oriental band during parades across the area. As a young man he worked alongside friend Brian Delisle with Windsor Chapter Order of De Molay as chapter Dad plus advisory board chair-he inspired so many young men locally and beyond.

A huge fan of Windsor Spitfires hockey team; George loved staying active too -he kept up an exercise routine including daily walks hitting at least ten thousand steps-and was known for having an ice-cold shot of Crown Royal every day right around four o’clock. Spending time with family or friends always made him happy; he enjoyed good times whenever possible!

The family would like to sincerely thank all PSWs, RNAs, RNs along with every staff member at Brouillette Manor for their caring support during George’s last days.

You’re invited to visit Sunday March 29th from 2 p. m.-5 p. m., then again from 7 p. m.-9 p. m., at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home South Chapel located at 3048 Dougall Avenue (519-253-7236). A Masonic Service will be held Sunday evening starting at 7:30 p. m., hosted by Harmony Lodge #579 A. F.& A. M. The funeral service takes place Monday morning March 30th at eleven o’clock with burial following afterward over at Windsor Memorial Gardens.
