Lino Pasquale Catroppa
We’re sad to share that Lino passed away on April 30th, 2026 at the age of 83 after battling a long illness. He leaves behind his partner and best friend, Margaret, and their children Eugenia, Emily (Ritchie), and Olivia. He was the loving son of the late Eugenia and Nino Catroppa, and brother to the late Mario, Vincenzo, Carmelina as well as Mafalda, Luigi and Alfio Catroppa-all from Rome. Grandpa to Lina and Hanna, he was also a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews across Italy and North America.
Originally from Italy, Lino was an expert in running restaurants. His culinary career started in Rome and Yorkshire before settling down in Windsor, Ontario. Family meant everything to him; he always made time for them whenever he could. A great speaker with a gentleman’s charm, Lino had this way of describing things that really painted vivid pictures with words. For over forty years, he shared his love for good food at The Cook’s Shop and The Pasta Shop with friends, customers, and coworkers alike. Before that he worked as a manager at Beach Grove Golf & Country Club as well as Cinecittà in Rome among other places in England and Windsor where he kept sharpening his cooking skills. People will remember his kindness and generosity-and that warm smile-that’ll stay with us forever.
The visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home (South Chapel), 3048 Dougall Avenue (519-253-7236) on Monday, May 4th from 2:00 p. m. until 5:00 p. m., then again from 7:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m., with prayers scheduled for 8:30 p. m. The funeral service is set for Tuesday morning on May 5th at 10:15 a. m., starting at the Funeral Home then moving to St Angela Merici Church located at 980 Louis Avenue for Mass at 11:00 a. m. Cremation will follow along with a private family burial.
If you’d like to honor Lino’s memory through donations instead of flowers or gifts, contributions can be made to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Windsor-Essex Humane Society. You can leave condolences or share stories online at www. windsorchapel. com
