They say that ‘any man can be a father but it takes a true man to be a dad’. This really fits Gerald James Coreau perfectly. Dad passed away late on April 19th, 2026 and is now on his way to reunite with his wife and true love.
Gerald (Jim) was born in Chapleau, Ontario along with his three brothers Fred, Bob, and Doug. As they grew up, their parents Dorothy and Gerry eventually moved the whole family to White River where Dad worked as a gas station pump attendant during his teenage years. The stories he told from those days are forever stuck in our minds. Later on, the family relocated from White River to Port Arthur and Fort William where Jim spent many years working for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool on the rails before becoming a grain inspector for SWP until he retired early at age 56.
Jim really enjoyed camping and fishing. He spent time camping at places like Trowbridge Falls, White Lily Lake, Kopka Lake before finally buying a trailer at Whitefish Lake. He and Mom stayed there for several years until her passing. After that happened, Dad sold the trailer and mostly stayed home – things just weren’t the same without Charlene by his side.
He is survived by Kelvin & Mairead Coreau, Christopher & Kimberly Coreau along with grandchildren Dana, Alex, Kristopher, Jewel, Hunter; also his last living brother Doug in Australia and his closest friend ‘Gizmo’. He’s now in Heaven being cared for by his parents Joseph and Dorothy Coreau; his wife Charlene Ann Coreau; brothers Fred of Winnipeg and Bob of Bolton, ON; plus close friend Judy Hardy. We want to thank everyone who helped keep him going all these years: the Toronto Hospital staff who gave him extra time with heart care; the workers at TBRHSC and various specialists who looked after him until nearly age 83. Special thanks also go to Auntie Joyce; nephews Jason and Brent of Winnipeg for their prayers; plus Auntie Donna, niece Carrie-Lyn and nephew Jason with wife Dianna for supporting him while we were in Toronto. Dad asked that no funeral take place so he will be laid to rest next to Charlene soon. He’s definitely happier now reunited with Mom.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
