SLADIC, Mary “Maca” (nee: Sekula)
Born May 14, 1947 in Dubravcani, Croatia. With heavy hearts we share the sudden and unexpected passing of Mary on April 20, 2026 at the age of 78. Mary was a strong woman who recently faced a brave fight against breast cancer. She was the loving wife and closest friend to the late Petar “Peter” Sladic (2014), with whom she would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary. A caring and devoted “Mama” to Jure “George” and his wife Katie Sladic, Peter and his late wife Chantal Sladic (2025), and Suzee Sladic. Proud Baka to Reighna and Riela Sladic. Preceded in death by her parents Josip and Magda Sekula. Dear sister to Barka Frketic and husband Josip; late Mate Sekula; and late Mica Sekula; along with all their families. Loved sister-in-law to Branko and his wife Maca Sladic and family members. Mary was a loyal parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church. She retired from Banner Metal after years of work. Mary inspired her family and friends deeply. Her unconditional love was truly the best gift any mother could give her family. Mary’s greatest joy came from celebrating time with her precious grandchildren. Everyone who knew her will always remember her gentle spirit as something special. Visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME (Central), 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E., (519) 253-7234 on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 2-5 p. m., then again from 7-9 p. m., with parish prayers at 7 p. m. Funeral Service is Saturday, April 25, 2026 starting at 9:15 a. m. from the funeral home followed by Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Croatian Catholic Church at 10 a. m. Burial will take place afterward at Windsor Memorial Gardens Cemetery. To honor Mary’s memory donations may be made to Hospice of Windsor and Essex County as an expression of sympathy.
