Maximus Mark Montgomery Hardy - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

July 26, 2017 – March 17, 2026

We are heartbroken to share the news of Maximus Mark Montgomery Hardy’s passing on March 17, 2026. He was only eight years old.

Maximus, known by his Ojibway name Nigigoonhs (Baby Otter), had a joyful and curious spirit deeply connected to the land. Like an otter, he was playful and loving, always bringing smiles and laughter to those around him. His bright smile could instantly light up any room and made everyone feel comfortable.

He was the youngest son of Marcus and Samantha Hardy and truly the center of their large family of eight. Family meant everything to Max.

He loved his sisters fiercely and would do anything for them. They were not just siblings but also his best friends and partners in fun.

Max shared a close relationship with his older brother MJ. He looked up to him, always wanting to learn from him and be part of what he was doing. Max listened carefully and quietly took in all the love and guidance around him.

The bond between Max and his mom was especially strong; he followed her everywhere like her little shadow. Their connection was full of warmth, comfort, and unconditional love.

To his dad, Max showed endless admiration – seeing him as a hero, role model, and best friend all at once. He really was his father’s son in every way possible.

Max felt most himself when out on the land. Fishing, hunting or riding side-by-side vehicles brought him joy because it connected him back to his roots. His adventurous nature touched everyone who knew him.

He also enjoyed simple treats like salt and vinegar chips, chocolate milk, and Cheerios. A proud hockey player too – he wore #6 with pride and determination.

Everywhere Max went he filled the space with warmth, laughter, and love. Though his time here was far too short, it held deep meaning through family ties and living close to nature.

His grandparents Mark & Joan Hardy along with Tracey Giles (Cliff) & Jamie Prystay loved him dearly as did many aunties, uncles cousins plus extended family members. His presence brought people together so this loss is felt well beyond just immediate family but throughout the community too.

As Max begins his journey into the Spirit World we hold onto our memories tightly knowing that his light will keep guiding those he loved from afar. He leaves behind an emptiness but also a love that won’t fade away.

This message is shared with heavy hearts by Marcus, Samantha, Kamlyn, MJ, Charly, Jakob , London , Georgia ,  and Sophia.

Service details: A celebration for Max’s life will take place Saturday , March 28 , 2026 starting at 11 :00 am at Nipigon Legion.

Cremation arrangements are handled by Simpler Times Cremation Centre located at 575 Central Avenue in Thunder Bay.
