July 20, 1954 – March 16, 2026,
Dorothy “Kathy” Mc Lean-who just went by Kathy-found rest and comfort on March 16, 2026, after fighting cancer with real courage. She was born on a warm summer day, July 20, 1954, in London, Ontario. Though her life ended in Thunder Bay, her heart stayed connected to London, Hamilton, Perth, Mc Donald’s Corners, and all the other places across the province she loved so much.
Kathy’s life was full of laughter and love with a strong will that never quit. She leaves behind her husband Mike-her partner in both jokes and everything else. Her kids Leslie (Raymond Cosey) and Gordon (Becky) carry on her strength and warmth-and yes, that stubborn streak too. Her spirit lives on through her grandchildren Gabrielle, Preston, Zander, and Sam who inherited Nana’s gift of gab and easy smile. They always knew she had a secret treat ready just for them. Kathy was predeceased by her parents Gord and Lorraine (Bestard) Reid as well as her sister Linda and bonus daughter Carliegh O’Hara. She is also survived by her sisters Donna, Barb, and Ruth Ann.
Kathy was spiritual at heart and felt closest to nature. Some of her best days were spent at her trailer-whether it was tucked away at Sylvania Lodge or enjoying the calm of Whitefish Lake Resort. For Kathy the best things weren’t material stuff but simple moments: quiet mornings alone or with family; fires crackling; meals shared together; long talks under open skies or around the dinner table. She liked lots of different things-as many as recipes she collected-but what tied it all together was how much joy she brought to each one. Even a small get-together turned into fun stories and laughter when she was around. Kathy made every place feel warmer and every day brighter.
As we say goodbye to our wife, mother, sister, and Nana-we want to remember her with smiles not tears because that’s what she’d want-the sound of laughter ringing out loudest. Although we can’t see her anymore physically-her lively spirit keeps dancing along with all who loved her.
A Celebration of Life will happen later this summer.
If you’d like to honor Kathy please consider giving to the Canadian Cancer Society instead of flowers.
