In Loving Memory of Dario and Daniel Cont
With heavy hearts and lots of love, we remember Dario Cont and his son, Daniel. Their lives showed strength, hard work, and a deep care for people, leaving a real impact on Thunder Bay and beyond.
Dario Cont: A Life Built on Hard Work
Dario was born in 1954 in the peaceful village of Canebola up in Northern Italy. When he was just two years old, back in 1956, he and his mom crossed the ocean to Port Arthur to join his dad and start fresh in Canada.
He was all about dedication. Dario worked sixteen years at Ace Tire before moving on to Goodyear (which later became Fountain Tire), where he stayed loyal for thirty-five years, sharing his skills with everyone around.
In 1979, he married Gerlynn, the love of his life. That started a wonderful chapter filled with family and partnership that meant everything to him.
Daniel Cont: Full of Life and Strength
Daniel came into the world in 1980 as their son. Born prematurely, he had to be sent to Sick Kids hospital in Toronto right away. Despite the tough start, Daniel’s strong will pulled him through – a toughness that stuck with him throughout his life.
Daniel wore many hats but had an even bigger heart. Folks around Thunder Bay knew him well from working at Eaton’s call centre and several stores at Intercity Mall like International, Randy River, and Champs Sports. Retail was really where he found himself alongside giving back through Grace Place and spinning tunes as a DJ. He loved writing songs to share what was inside him; performing magic tricks that amazed people; but mostly just connecting with others-he truly lived for making people smile.
In August 2010, Daniel met Amanda Vondette who became his steady support and closest companion.
Their Lasting Impact
Dario and Daniel will be deeply missed by Gerlynn Cont and Amanda Vondette along with many family members both here in Thunder Bay and back in Italy. Friends too will feel their loss deeply since they shared so much kindness mixed with good humor.
Cremation has already taken place; a funeral service celebrating their lives is planned for springtime. Instead of flowers folks can send donations over to Sick Kids if they want.
“Love is patient, love is kind.”
