Armed officers showed up at Cambridge railway station on Sunday evening (22 March) after someone reported a man carrying a weapon on a train.
The train was coming from Royston and was stopped just before reaching Cambridge so police could get on board. A 25-year-old man from London was taken into custody.
Armed police were called to Cambridge railway station
Police confirmed that nobody got hurt during the incident.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire police said: “Police were called at 6.26pm on 22 March with reports of a man with a weapon on a train travelling between Royston and Cambridge.
“Armed response officers were sent to Cambridge train station, and the train, which was scheduled to arrive in Cambridge at 6.37pm, was held just before it got there.
“Officers boarded the train and arrested a 25-year-old man from London on suspicion of having an offensive weapon. He’s still being held at Parkside Police Station.
“No one was injured.
“The station was closed as a safety measure but reopened shortly after 7pm.
“Officers are working together with British Transport Police for the investigation. This looks like an isolated event but to keep people feeling safe there’ll be more police presence at the station.”
This comes not long after an attack happened on a train between Doncaster and London King’s Cross last November, where several people were stabbed. That train stopped in Huntingdon after those attacks.
Anthony Williams, aged 32, from Langford Road in Peterborough, is charged with 13 counts of attempted murder-three are related to other incidents too. The trial might start on 27 June, 2026.
