The word “family” really meant a lot to Wayne. He often said his wider circle was “grafted in!”
Wayne leaves behind a history full of kindness and generosity. One colleague once told him: “Wayne you are a capitalist with a socialist heart!” His whole life was about helping others.
He was ordained twice-first by the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada in 1961; then by The United Church of Canada in 1974. His ministry spanned over five decades across both groups starting out at Chemainus , Elliot Lake , Petrolia ; later serving Conn ; Banner/Putnam Pastoral Charge ; Denbigh ; Lynden/Troy ; Sydenham in Brantford ; as chaplain at Kafue Secondary School in Zambia; plus Echo Place and Harmony also located in Brantford. He felt deeply connected to each congregation he served and enjoyed seeing how they lived out their faith.
A special service celebrating Wayne’s life and ministry took place at Sydenham/Heritage United Church last November. He got to watch it from his bedside at Carpenter Hospice.
The family will hold a private gathering soon to honor him and remember the good times together. If you’d like to make a memorial donation in Wayne’s name , the family suggests giving either to your church or directly to Carpenter Hospice.
