With heavy hearts, the family shares the sudden and unexpected loss of Kelsey May Mc Bain at just 30 years old on February 5, 2026. Her passing leaves a huge emptiness for everyone who knew and loved her. Kelsey was born on March 2, 1995, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and grew up in Kakabeka Falls. She went to Kakabeka Falls Public School, Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate & Vocational Institute, and Confederation College where she made lifelong friends that meant the world to her.
Kelsey had a special connection with her twin sister Madison-side by side from the start. They shared a bond that stayed strong throughout their lives. Along with their older brother Matthew, they filled their childhood with lots of fun adventures and memories. Even as adults, the three liked to call themselves “the Mc Bain triplets.”
Some of Kelsey’s happiest times were summer camping trips with cousins at places like Arrow Lake, Madeline Lake, and Brown’s Clearwater. She always looked forward to passing down these family traditions to her own kids someday.
From an early age you could tell Kelsey had a lively personality. She could light up any room with her quick humor and smile. Often the one making people laugh at parties or gatherings. Planning events was something she really enjoyed too-she organized so many bridal showers, baby showers and birthday parties over time; always putting in extra effort to make them memorable for everyone involved. If someone needed help or support she was there without hesitation.
Kelsey’s biggest joy came from being a mom. She loved her daughter Aspyn more than anything in this world; motherhood gave her purpose like nothing else did. She thought carefully about every choice for her children and worked hard to create a good life for them both now and going forward. She had been eagerly waiting for baby boy Rhett’s arrival already full of love before he even got here.
Kelsey bought her first place all on her own in Thunder Bay before moving with Bradley out to Lappe where they started their family together. The community welcomed them warmly right away making it feel like home fast. She put tons of work into turning their house into a cozy home – gardening hours spent tending flowers alongside teaching Aspyn along the way were part of that dream: fresh cut blooms filling every room during summer picked straight from their own garden beds.
Helping others was close to Kelsey’s heart so she found meaningful work in long-term care roles over time including recently at Matawa Health Cooperative where she showed great leadership while working among friends in a supportive atmosphere that really suited her well. Through those jobs she made many dear friendships which meant so much to her.
Kelsey leaves behind two wonderful children: Aspyn and Rhett Maynard; partner Bradley Maynard; parents Lori and John Mc Bain; siblings Matthew Mc Bain plus Madison (Brody) Miller; grandmother Lillian Uusitalo; nephew Callum; nieces Avery and Kayce along with lots of other family members like aunts, uncles cousins-and many close friends too.
She was preceded in death by Nana Margaret Mc Bain; Papa John Mc Bain; Grandpa Eino Uusitalo.
Aspyn and Rhett brought such new light into Kelsey’s life – we’ll all keep that light shining bright for you-in our hearts through your kids-and all those warm memories you left behind us forever You’ll be loved always-and missed beyond words.
A gathering celebrating Kelsey’s life is planned for early summer when everyone can come together share stories reflect on what an amazing person she truly was.
The family thanks staff at Victoria Hospital plus Children’s Hospital NICU in London as well as Ronald Mc Donald House workers whose kindness helped during tough times away from home-they treated us like family when it mattered most Also big thanks go out to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre NICU team whose care during this difficult period made all difference possible.
