At 10:58am, Cambridge Emergency Communications got several 9-1-1 calls about gunfire on Sherman St., close to Stearns St. Patrol officers rushed over right away, and when they arrived, both ballistic evidence and witness accounts confirmed a shooting had taken place. Early info points to a fight involving 2 or 3 people in the street-one might have been on a bike-during which at least one person fired several shots at another. Everyone involved ran off before police showed up and none are believed to still be nearby; so far, there aren’t any reported gunshot injuries.
Just to be safe, Harvard University put out a shelter-in-place alert and nearby schools and key spots were notified. What we know so far says this was an isolated event with only those involved, so there’s no ongoing danger for the community. Sherman St. and some roads around it were shut down while CPD Detectives worked the scene. All roads have since reopened.
CPD Detectives shared photos below of someone they want to talk to about this case; this person isn’t wanted yet but they’d like to get in touch with them. If you know anything, please call CPD Detectives at (617) 349-3121. You can also send tips anonymously by e-mail or text here: Anonymous Tips
