A man from South Boston was arrested and charged following a fatal stabbing in Cambridge on Tuesday night, officials say.
Victor Rivas, 51, living in South Boston, faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious injury after the deadly incident inside a Norfolk Street apartment building in Cambridge.
Around 7:52 p. m. on Tuesday, Cambridge Emergency Communications sent police, fire, and EMS to an apartment complex on Norfolk Street after getting a 911 call about someone being stabbed.
When they arrived, first responders found a male victim badly hurt. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but died later on.
Police from CPD and MIT then spotted Rivas close by and arrested him.
“The preliminary investigation suggests that there was an altercation inside the apartment between the defendant and the male victim, who are believed to be known to each other,” the Middlesex DA’s office wrote. “Both parties sustained injuries during the altercation.”
The investigation is ongoing with detectives from CPD working alongside Massachusetts State Police and Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
The DA’s office added, “Preliminary investigation suggests this was an isolated incident and there is no broader danger to public safety.”
