Waterloo regional police are looking into several vehicle accidents that happened recently, including ones where two pedestrians lost their lives.
On Friday night, around 11:15 p. m., emergency crews were called to a crash involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian on Christopher Drive near Champlain Boulevard in Cambridge.
The pedestrian, a 60-year-old woman from Cambridge, was pronounced dead right there at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck wasn’t hurt.
The next day, Saturday afternoon at about 4:30 p. m., emergency services got reports of another collision on Wilmot Centre Road near Bleams Road. This time it involved a motorcycle and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 66-year-old man from Wilmot, was taken to a hospital outside the area but sadly died there. The motorcycle rider, who’s 34 years old, wasn’t injured.
A spokesperson for the Waterloo Regional Police Service told Cambridge Chronicle “there is no evidence to suggest that impairment was a contributing factor in either collision.”
Hit-and-run early Saturday morning
Police also responded early Saturday morning around 12:30 a. m. after a car crashed into a hydro pole near Christner Road and Waterloo Street in Wilmot.
The driver took off before officers arrived. The crash badly damaged the pole and caused power lines to fall down.
They say the vehicle involved is likely a red Chevrolet Silverado made between 2017-2021 with serious front-end damage and missing its Chevrolet badge.
The police are still investigating all three crashes. If anyone saw what happened or has dashcam footage, they’re asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
