Man arrested with inactive grenade, stolen bike on UW campus

Waterloo Regional Police (WRPS) shared more info about a case at the University of Waterloo (UW), after they found an inactive grenade on someone suspected of theft.

Police say officers were called to the main campus around 6 a. m. Tuesday to check out a theft report.

UW Special Constables noticed a guy riding a bike around campus that had been reported stolen before.

The UW constables arrested him, and during that, they found what police call an ‘inert grenade’, which led WRPS to get involved in the investigation.

Staff, students, and faculty got a message through the campus emergency alert system just before 8 a. m. about an “active investigation,” but it said there was no immediate danger to anyone. That warning was lifted less than an hour later.
