Cambridge police have released images of a “person of interest” connected to a shooting that caused Harvard University to briefly put staff and students on lockdown this past Friday. Detectives want to question the individual shown in the pictures, though they’re not currently considered a suspect. The shooting happened near Sherman and Stearns streets, with 911 calls coming in around 10:58 a. m., according to city officials. “Preliminary information suggests that 2 – 3 persons had an altercation in the roadway, one of whom was possibly on a bike, during which at least one person fired multiple gunshots at another,” police said in their statement. “All those involved fled the scene before officers arrived and are not believed to still be in the area.” Around noon, Sky5 flew over the scene showing active investigation with many yellow evidence markers on both street and sidewalk. Yellow tape blocked off intersections while officers and at least one K-9 were working nearby. Streets reopened once investigators wrapped up their work. Police also mentioned there are no confirmed victims from this shooting. Harvard lifted its shelter-in-place order by noon. “Available evidence suggests that this was an isolated incident with those directly involved, there is no ongoing public safety risk to the broader community,” police added. Anyone who knows anything about the shooting or recognizes the person in these photos should contact detectives at 617-349-3121 or send an anonymous tip online.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Cambridge police have shared photos of a “person of interest” tied to a shooting event that made Harvard University quickly ask staff and students to stay put on Friday.
Detectives said they want to talk with the person pictured but clarified that this individual is not currently wanted.
The shooting near Sherman and Stearns streets was first reported via 911 calls at about 10:58 a. m., Cambridge officials stated.

At around noon, Sky5 surveyed the city overhead seeing an ongoing crime scene investigation marked by lots of yellow evidence tags scattered on pavement and sidewalks. Yellow crime-scene tape blocked intersections as law enforcement officers along with at least one K-9 worked nearby.
The roads reopened after investigators finished their tasks.
Police also noted there are no known victims from this incident so far. Harvard removed its shelter-in-place order by noon.
“Available evidence suggests that this was an isolated incident with those directly involved, there is no ongoing public safety risk to the broader community,” police said.
