Sylvia Fetter Obituary

At Riverview Gardens Nursing Home on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026, Sylvia Fetter quietly passed away at the age of 76. She was the daughter of the late James and Eileen (Samspon) Champaigne. Sylvia shared over 53 years of marriage with her husband Brian Fetter. They sadly lost their infant daughter Maria Fetter in 1981. She is survived by her sister Glenna (Larry) Brazeau from Timmins and was a dear aunt to Kelly (Norm) Bougie. She also was a proud honorary grandma to their children Mattie and Maggie Bougie, Jason (Kelly) Brazeau, Cynthia (Steve) Joduin, Curtis Champaigne, Mark (Cindy) Weaver, Jill (Jack) Ferren, April Inglis, Jean (Gord) Gould, Jamie Inglis, John Inglis, Scott Weaver and Pam Weaver. Sylvia was predeceased by her brother Gerald Champaigne (Joy), along with sisters-in-law Patricia (James) Inglis and Vivian Weaver.

Brian and Sylvia first met in North Bay before moving to Sarnia and then settling down in Chatham. It was there they ran Fetter’s Snack Shack from 1975 until 1998. After that chapter closed, Sylvia worked at Walmart from 1999 until she retired in 2014.

Sylvia loved being around people – family and friends were everything to her. Her door was always open; it wasn’t unusual to find her dropping off homemade soup or muffins to someone who needed a pick-me-up. Folks will remember how kind she always was.

Family and friends are welcome to visit Alexander & Houle Funeral Home at 245 Wellington West in Chatham on Thursday, February 5th, 2026. Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 pm and again from 7 to 9 pm. The memorial service will be held at the funeral home chapel on Friday, February 6th at 1 pm. Cremation has already taken place with burial planned later at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Chatham. Those wishing to honor Sylvia’s memory may consider donating to a charity close to their heart. Condolences can be left online atwww. alexanderandhoulefuneralhome. ca.
