Norma Niemi, aged 94 from Thunder Bay, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the Hospice in St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She was born in Glenavon, Saskatchewan and later moved with her family to Fort Frances where she spent her childhood. Norma married Roy White and together they lived in Stevens, Ontario and Manitouwadge. Sadly, Roy passed away in an accident in 1987. Two years later she relocated to Thunder Bay. In 1999, she married Allan Niemi. Over the years, Norma took part in Christian Women and Women’s Aglow groups. She also dedicated time teaching youth bible study and was active with the Thunder Bay Living Well Healing Rooms. More recently, she joined a small prayer group.
She leaves behind her husband Allan; daughters Judy Mc Gee and family from Red Deer, Alberta; Debbie and son of Thunder Bay; Joanne White and family from Surrey, British Columbia; Tammy Natkinniemi and family of Calgary, Alberta; Cathy White also of Calgary; stepdaughter Karen Wilson and family along with three stepsons: Grant Niemi (Darlene) and family, George Niemi, John Niemi (Eeva) and family all from Thunder Bay as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Norma was predeceased by her son Douglas in 1959; grandson Christopher Mc Gee in 1972; brother Darrell Webb in 2004; sister Muriel Mc Fayden in 2009; brother Alan Webb in January 2016; sister Lois Thompson in February 2016 as well as her parents Neal Webb who died in 1971 and Lottie Webb who passed away in 1980 plus stepdaughter Trish Johnson who died in 2021.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and doctors at St. Joseph’s Hospice along with Dr. Mulligan and the VON for the compassionate care given to Norma. They’d also like to thank Everest Funeral Chapel for their kindness and professionalism.
The funeral service is set for Monday February 2nd at 1:00 pm at the WESTFORT CHAPEL located at 420 West Gore Street near James Street with Pastor Jubin Abraham leading the ceremony. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
