Obituary of Giovana "Janie" Cammalleri (Nee Piazza)

Janie Cammalleri, wife, mom, Nonna, and sister, passed away suddenly at 73 in Windsor, Ontario.

She was born in Montallegro, Sicily and moved to Canada with her family when she was just two years old. Janie grew up in Windsor and stayed there all her life. She shared 50 years of marriage with Pietro “Peter” Cammalleri, building a close-knit and loving family together.

Janie was a caring mother to Joseph and Nicole (Bruder), as well as Frank and Melissa (Edwards). She was also a proud Nonna to Benjamin, Domenic, and Noella. Family meant the world to her – she never missed a chance to talk about them with anyone who’d listen.

Sharp-minded and curious, Janie enjoyed staying updated on the news and celebrity gossip. You could often find her playing cards. Her grandkids especially loved her cooking – most famously her lasagna – which she made with care and tradition that always brought everyone together around the table.

She was preceded in death by her father, Francesco Piazza (2009).

Janie leaves behind her devoted husband Peter; her mother Anna Piazza, who is 99 years old; plus siblings Josie and John Donato; Domenica and the late Bruno Cremasco (2016); Peter and Franca Piazza; Anthony and Denise Piazza; along with Enzo Piazza.

She’s also remembered by Peter’s family: the late Leonardo (2022) and Giuseppina Cammalleri (2013); Angela and the late Paolo Bongiorno (2024); Frank and Filomena Cammalleri; plus Filomena and Jerry Baronian.

Her 21 nieces and nephews – along with their kids and grandkids – will miss her dearly too.

Those lucky enough to know Janie will always recall her love for family, quick wit, and generous nature.

Visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – South Chapel, 3048 Dougall Avenue (519-253-7236) on Monday, February 2, 2026 from 2pm-5pm & 7pm-9pm. Parish Prayers Monday at 4:30 p. m. Giovana will rest at St. Angela Merici Church, 980 Louis Avenue on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 10:00 a. m. until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a. m. Cremation will follow. The family would appreciate donations to Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation Dialysis Fund. You can share condolences or memories online at www. windsor. chapel. com
