Vernon Raymond Seymour - Obituary - Northwest Ontario

The family is heartbroken to share that Vernon Raymond Seymour passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on December 23, 2025, in Comox, British Columbia.

Vern was born on August 3, 1956, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He worked as a power engineer for almost four decades and took great pride in his job until he retired from Resolute Forest Products about 13 years ago.

He was curious about the world all his life and loved learning new things. Outside work, you’d often find him fiddling with small engines like snowblowers or lawnmowers. If something was broken, Vern usually figured out how to fix it – often helping others along the way. He was rarely without his phone or computer, always looking up info, learning how to repair stuff or digging into whatever caught his interest. He had a sharp memory for names and dates and genuinely liked staying informed.

Vern cared deeply about his community and got involved in local city politics. He attended council meetings regularly, kept an eye on municipal issues closely, and made sure city leaders stayed accountable. He believed in doing your part as a citizen and wasn’t shy about speaking up when something mattered to him.

He really enjoyed meeting up with his retired friends from Bowater over coffee-those chats meant a lot to him. Summers were often spent camping at parks around Thunder Bay with his wife Mary. But what he loved most was hanging out with his granddaughters in Comox; making them laugh with his jokes gave him so much happiness.

Vern’s parents Robert Harris Seymour and Sarah Jean Seymour passed away before him.

He leaves behind Mary, the love of his life; daughter Melissa; son Patrick (and Shannon); granddaughters Ivy and Autumn; brother Bob (with Lorraine); sister Lynn; their dog Willow who never left Vern’s side; plus many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

His family will miss him tons but maybe not city council too much! Lol.

Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Vern’s name to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday March 28, 2026 at 1pm at Current River Community Centre (450 Dewe Ave, Thunder Bay, ON).
