Homeowner believed to be victim in fatal Cambridge house fire, officials say

CAMBRIDGE, Maine – The state fire marshal’s office is looking into a deadly house fire that took a man’s life in Cambridge on Monday.

Investigators arrived at 133 Andrew Ham Road around 5:10 p. m., according to the Maine Department of Public Safety’s press release.

Firefighters found a deceased person inside the home while working to put out the flames. Authorities believe this person was the homeowner, 75-year-old Stuart Howe, the release said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta will conduct an autopsy to confirm who it is and figure out exactly how he died.

The reason for the fire is still being looked into.

The Cambridge, Sangerville, and Harmony fire departments responded and dealt with cold weather and icy roads while fighting the blaze. An excavator was also brought in to help put out the fire, officials said.
